I life in a country where we have a mandatory monthly fee for the state-run media outlet. Its roughly 2x a youtube premium. And quality of said outlet is still declining with everyone else. Pretty non-critical reporting, basically forwarding of what others have claimed. Typos, questionable headlines which get corrected half an hour later. I refute your claim. Its not about financing. Journalists have just become very lazy. Mainstream media deserves the same "I vote with my wallet" treatment as everyone else. And the state forcing me to pay for a specific outlet is just so broken, I am questioning the sanity of our politicians. But lobbying helps I guess. Instead of doing a good/great job, the new tactics is to insist that "you" are an indispensible part of democracy, even though you aren't doing any critical reporting anymore...
Pushing certain talking points, managing discourse, amplifying certain people/events/whatever. Not all of it is nation-state stuff, some things are just lobbying and influence-building and market manipulation. Spreading rumors for shady purposes is a very old scam.

We're talking about foreign influence here. All recent US and German elections reeked of Russian dark money, then there was the entire Cambridge Analytica mess and before that it was Brexit.
This is such a dark and dehumanizing take. I am disabled. I definitely had "destabilizing" effects on my environment when I grew up. These days, am as independant as possible. People from your train of thought would have aborted me. Your train of thought leads to what nazi germany already did. Yeah, an extreme example, I know, but following your attitude inevitably leads to very dehumanizing and egotistical takes. In fact, if you consider a family member a burden, please leave, you're the problem, not them.
Public broadcasters in .de and .at have generally become very shady. To me it seems they dont have to pretend to do good journalism anymore, because they are financed by a mandatory fee per household anyway. It started to be very visible during COVID times. Unfortunately, since then, it only got worse.

That pisses me the fuck off as well. Not only is it forced coercion to have to pay an extra tax for receiving state propaganda, not only are their fees higher than what the brits pay for the BBC, they also don't produce any valuable IP for all that money they get from us, like the BBC does (Dr. WHo, Top Gear, etc). And in UK only people with TV have to pay whereas every household in AT has to pay regardless if you have a TV or not.
Nobody managed to convince me that the mandatory austrian broadcast fee is not a massive scam and a jobs program for the politically connected people to hire themselves, their friends and their family into insanely lucrative public sector jobs with golden benefits on the taxpayer's expense.
Would you be willing to share more details, instead of this rather vague claim? I've had three at least 2 hour long operations last year. I kind of wondered if I'd notice any aftereffects, but apparently didn't. Even waking up was pretty uneventful, consciousness just coming back like a light bulb being turned on again.
So either I am an exception, or your "everyone I know" needs qualification. In any case, I'd be very interested in what aftereffects you noticed, maybe that helps me reflect.
For me and others(in my circle with operations, 5) the waking up part is multiple hours of a drugged feeling, like you really aren't on the same planet anymore.
Currently have a family member in hospital and 4 days later they are still dealing with the effects.
I assume this is probably a regional/country issue, australian public hospitals are pretty sub-standard.
I mean, maybe what do you think about 4 weeks later? If I'm being put under I think more than 4 days is reasonable to expect my mind to recover. If I have a terrible flu I could be in a fog for as few.
However this is not to diminish your report specifically, just that in terms of what I care about long-term it is the >2 weeks effects
